Real Valladolid’s 2-0 win over Real Zaragoza on Saturday made survival all but certain, but the final confirmation came only after the rest of the matchday results played out. Sunday’s fixtures, particularly Mirandés’ 0-1 loss to Eibar, showed that the Blanquivioletas would benefit from any tie scenarios based on the remaining direct encounters.
Should any doubt have remained, Huesca’s 1-2 defeat against Real Sociedad B on Monday night made relegation mathematically impossible for Valladolid. The team now leads the relegation zone by 10 points with only nine points left to play for.
Relief for the Blanquivioletas
There is no reason for a grand celebration, but rather a deep sense of relief after an extremely tough campaign. Real Valladolid spent two matchdays (26 and 27) in the relegation spots, and the threat of dropping down was a real possibility for many weeks.

Despite a poor season for Valladolid, there are actually seven teams that have fared even worse. This year’s survival line is set to be the lowest in many seasons. On this matchday, six of the eight teams fighting to stay in the second division lost. Only Real Valladolid and Real Sociedad B picked up wins, securing their safety with their three points.
