Barcelona and head coach Hansi Flick have reached a verbal agreement to extend the German manager’s contract. According to reports from Mundo Deportivo on Monday, Flick’s agent Pini Zahavi and Barcelona’s sporting director Deco have finalized the terms of a new deal that will keep the German at the helm until 2028.

The new agreement extends Flick’s current contract, which was due to expire in 2027, ensuring his tenure runs for at least one additional season. Furthermore, the deal includes a performance-based option for a further year, potentially keeping Flick at the club until 2029, contingent on meeting predefined sporting targets.

## Quick progress in talks

Negotiations progressed smoothly following meetings between Zahavi, Deco, and newly elected club president Joan Laporta, a personal friend of the agent. The optimistic atmosphere behind the scenes had already been foreshadowed publicly by interim club president Rafa Yuste during the weekend’s Spanish league title celebrations.

“The renewal will be very simple. People have seen that he is very happy in Barcelona. He has adapted very well to the club. Some details still need to be finalized, but when Deco and he are ready, we will make the public announcement,” Yuste stated at the time.

The confirmation of the agreement ensures Flick will lead the team through the first two seasons of Laporta’s official new term, which begins on July 1.

## Focus on century milestones delays signing

Despite the handshake between the parties, the official signing of the new contract is not expected immediately. Hansi Flick, who dedicated the recent league title to his late father, prefers to keep the squad focused on the final stretch of La Liga before dealing with bureaucratic formalities.

The coach and players are focused on achieving a historic internal target: reaching 100 points and 100 goals scored in the competition. With three rounds remaining in the championship, the Catalan side currently has 91 points and 91 goals.

As a result, the formalization of the contracts is likely to be delayed until the end of the official season, or in an alternative scenario, until the inauguration ceremony of the new board led by Joan Laporta.
